UNGUIDED MOOSE HUNTING IN THE ALASKA GMU 18
Join us during the mid September moose rut in Western Alaska in the state’s highest moose density area. Our pilots will put you on your own lake in the heart of moose country.
Choosing the right Transportation Service on DIY Moose Hunts is a HUGE part of a successful hunting experience.
Our area holds lots of moose, weather can be a challenge as always in Alaska, and regulations can vary from year to year. As a hunting transport business, we do our best to work with all of these ever-changing variables to give you the best opportunity possible for the adventure you’re after.
Ultimately, your success IS our success.
Our team is going to do its best for you to have a great opportunity at taking animal!
- Trophy Quality: While this is an any-bull hunt, most bulls are of a nice representative quality, with a few record book bulls killed each year.
- Success Rate: 80+%
- Opportunity Rate: 95%
- Hunt Difficulty: This can be a physical hunt. Moose are big animals, expect wet, inclement weather and lots of work once your trophy is down. Successful hunters get out and hunt.
- Wolves: Wolves tend to be elusive creatures, and the population in our area is low. However, no non-resident locking tag is required, so your Alaska hunting license allows you to shoot a wolf if encountered, and is included in your hunt.
- Bears: The area has a small population of brown bears, which CANNOT be harvested on our DIY hunt. Black bears are extremely rare, so we recommend against buying a bear tag.
- Fishing: Each of our camps is located on a lake. Fishing for sheefish, Northern pike, and lake trout may be an option depending on your location. Bringing a small pole and a bit of tackle would be a good idea if you’re interested.

DIY MOOSE HUNTS
Each of our moose hunts include a two man base camp with all the gear necessary to keep you out of the weather and safe during your hunt. The camp package also includes a raft to navigate the area around your lake and shuttle meat once you get your trophy bull down.
Please keep in mind:
- The hunt does not include food (we have freeze dried meal packages available for purchase at an additional cost).
- Each two person group has a 200 pound maximum allowable weight limit. This 200 pound limit covers all of your personal gear, food, and weapons for both members of the group. Everything will be weighed prior to leaving in our planes, and weight limits will be strictly enforced.
